{"id":569,"date":"2022-05-23T08:23:07","date_gmt":"2022-05-23T06:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/future-higher-education.com\/?p=569"},"modified":"2022-05-23T08:23:07","modified_gmt":"2022-05-23T06:23:07","slug":"the-portrayal-of-the-future-as-legitimacy-construction-discursive-strategies-in-highly-ranked-business-schools-external-communication-new-article","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/future-higher-education.hu\/en\/the-portrayal-of-the-future-as-legitimacy-construction-discursive-strategies-in-highly-ranked-business-schools-external-communication-new-article\/","title":{"rendered":"The portrayal of the future as legitimacy construction: discursive strategies in highly ranked business schools\u2019 external communication \u2013 new article"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Zsuzsanna G\u00e9ring, R\u00e9ka Tam\u00e1ssy, G\u00e1bor Kir\u00e1ly and M\u00e1rton Rakovics published a new article in <em>Higher Education<\/em>, one of the highest ranked scientific journals in the field of higher education research.<\/p>\n<p>In the paper G\u00e9ring, director of Future of Higher Education Research Centre, and her colleagues investigate how highly ranked business schools construct their legitimacy claims by analysing their online organisational communication.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The researchers argue that in the case of higher education institutions in general, and business schools in particular, the discursive formation of legitimacy claims is strongly connected to the future. Therefore, in the research they approach highly ranked business schools\u2019 website communication with corpus-based discourse analysis, particularly focusing on sentences containing the expression \u2018future\u2019.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Regarding their findings, G\u00e9ring and colleagues first present the future-related language use to reveal the general future picture in the corpus. Then, as the outcome of qualitative and quantitative textual analysis, they identify six typical agency frames (i.e., preparing, shaping, adjusting, exploring, personal future, responsibility) about the future. By examining the co-occurrence of these frames, the researchers were able to identify different discursive strategies of business higher education.
