Action learning, student motivation and university missions – FHERC summer-autumn conference presentations
FHERC members presented their research at several conferences during the summer and autumn.
Two of our studies were presented at the 36th CHER conference in Luxembourg from 4 to 6 September.
One of the presentations was based on FHERC’s research on the missions and visions of European universities. Here, the international higher education research audience learned about the first results of a study analysing the mission statements of the top 100 European universities. Zsuzsanna Géring, Réka Tamássy, presented the first results of the research of a team (Zsuzsanna Géring, Réka Tamássy, Vanda Harmat, Eszter Knúlné Pál). In addition, in another session, they presented the main results of their research on the media representation of model change in Hungarian higher education, which has recently been published in the Intersections journal (Q2) in English (available here).
Dr Zsófia Frányó and Dr Boglárka Szijártó presented the results of their qualitative research, “Success in higher education: student motivation and agency,” at the conference “Navigating the Changing Landscape: Embracing Innovation and Evidence in Higher Education,” held at Utrecth between 25 and 27 September.
The themes of the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI) conference on higher education included innovative pedagogies, professional development for teachers, the use of artificial intelligence and, to the delight of colleagues, research on teaching accounting to support critical thinking.
Following this, the Higher Education Pedagogy Conference 2024 was held at the ELTE Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology on 11 October 2024, where FHERC members led an interactive workshop entitled “Action Learning and the Development of Capacity for Action in Higher Education” in one of the afternoon sessions.
The event was attended by around 30 participants, who were able to learn about the Action Learning (AT) method and get an insight into its practical implementation. The workshop discussed the experiences of the Action Learning project of Budapest Business University, which won a special prize as Innovative Project at the University IDOL Award. The facilitators of the workshop were Judit Kovács, Viktória Pajor and Ildikó Dén-Nagy, the content and methodological preparation was supported by Zsuzsanna Géring and Viktória Vadász.
